Check Out Netflix Comedy Series – “Miseducation”

The show boasts an impressive cast, including Buntu Petse, Lunga Shabalala, Baby Cele, Prev Reddy, Mpho Sebeng, Micaela Tucker, Mandisa Nduna, Camilla Waldman, Nicole Bessick, Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, Sechaba Ramphele, Luyanda Zwane, and Mamarumo Marokane.

The plot revolves around Mbali Hadebe, portrayed by Buntu Petse, who grapples with the consequences of her mother’s corrupt political dealings when the police raid their home and confiscate their possessions.

Filled with shame and desiring a fresh start, Mbali enrols at Grahamstown University in Makhanda, embarking on a journey to rebuild her life and distance herself from her mother’s tarnished reputation. She takes an unconventional approach to reinventing herself, such as driving the campus taxi, co-hosting a gossip show called “The Spill” with Raeesah (Nicole Bessick), and even running for the Student Representative Council.

Along the way, she gains motivation and support from her unconventional group of friends – Jay (Prev Reddy) and Natalie (Micaela Tucker). Meanwhile, her SRC campaign is inspired by Sivu Levine (Lunga Shabalala), a local heartthrob, rowing champion, and aspiring actor entangled in dramatic situations. Sivu faces stiff competition from the seasoned President Caesar (Mpho Sebeng), a longtime campus activist, and the conspiracy theorist Mubarak (Ebenhaezer Dibakwane).

“Miseducation” is produced by Burnt Onion Productions. It is slated for an exclusive premiere on Netflix on September 15, 2023.

The animated series “Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire” which stars Nigerian actress Kehinde Bankole as Moremi, has been nominated for the prestigious Rose d’Or award. This is cause for celebration. The show is a future, Africa-centric anthology that tackles themes of technological development, extraterrestrial contacts, spirits, and monsters. It is the result of the joint work of animators from Zimbabwe, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and Egypt.

Bankole announced the wonderful news on social media and congratulated the whole cast and crew for being nominated for a prestigious Rose d’Or award in the Children and Youth category. The event, which is scheduled for November 27, 2023, at King’s Palace in London, is a noteworthy acknowledgement in the field of international entertainment broadcasting and programming.

With a cast that includes Florence Kasumba, Pearl Thusi, and Nasty C, the Disney+ Original is executive-produced by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Ramsey and supervising producers Tendayi Nyeke and Anthony Silverston.

‘Moremi’ the fifth episode of the 10-part series, is a Yoruba-inspired sci-fi cartoon directed and created by Shofela Coker, one of the notable Nigerian contributors to the series. This episode, which Vanessa Kanu co-wrote, deftly tells the story of a spirit boy named Luo who is stuck in a spooky spirit realm. Moremi, a particle physicist from future Nigeria, saves Luo and helps him recollect his past.

Charles Okpaleke’s Play Network Studio Collaborates With Namibia’s Mondija Studios For Upcoming Project

In an effort to tell African stories through cinema, Namibia’s Mondjila Studios and Charles Okpaleke’s Play Network Studios, a Nigerian movie company, have partnered. “The Skeleton Coast” an ambitious project, is intended to be the largest cooperative film production in Africa to date.

Charles Okpaleke, CEO of Play Network Studios, outlined the goals of this partnership, stressing the significance of Africans narrating their own tales and collaborating in bold and creative ways throughout the continent to influence the future. “The Skeleton Coast” is situated against the backdrop of Namibia’s Skeleton Coast, which the native bushmen tribes refer to as “The Land God Made in Anger”. The skeletal remnants of more than a thousand shipwrecks can be found throughout this unusual coastal region creating a hauntingly beautiful yet otherworldly landscape.

The project aims to be the pinnacle of African filmmaking’s cross-continental collaboration. This enormous project is being directed by the well-known Robert Peter, who has assembled a group of gifted performers from Hollywood and all around Africa. The cast features some notable actors and actresses, including Namibian Tjuna Daringo, Ghanaian Mawuli Gavor, South African Cindy Mahlangu, Nigerian Damilola Adegbite and South African Thaepelo Mokoena. American actor Eric Roberts, who is nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, joins the star-studded cast.

“The Skeleton Coast” is expected to be a showcase for the potency of African storytelling as well as a symphony of artistic brilliance and international cooperation. This project intends to highlight the rich history, alluring scenery, and varied skills that Africa has to offer with significant investments.

By presenting “The Skeleton Coast” Play Network Studios and Mondjila Studios hope to embrace the diversity of the continent and promote a bright future for African filmmaking by bringing real African stories to the global audience. This partnership highlights the increasing momentum in African cinema, which emphasises originality and inventiveness that appeals to a wide range of viewers.

Nollywood actor, RMD is set to star in the South African movie “Magenta Coal“, which will be available for streaming on Netflix.

While his specific role in the film is not made clear yet, expectations are high due to his recent performance in another Netflix movie titled “The Black Book“, where he played Paul Edima, seeking revenge for his son’s death.

“Magenta Coal” revolves around a wealthy mining family that controls the largest coal mine in South Africa. The plot takes a dramatic turn when Matilda, the wife of the mining magnate, becomes consumed with a desire for wealth and securing the family’s succession.

This new movie is expected to be a drama series, scheduled to start streaming on October 27, 2023, following Netflix’s recent addition to its content.

The show features participants Malibongwe Gumede, Nande Ramcwana, Vuvu Maseti, and Zezethu Mniki, who have the task of choosing from a group of 12 Nigerian bachelors from diverse backgrounds. They will engage in online speed dating and collectively select eight men who impress them the most before proceeding to Nigeria to meet them in person.
