4 Cool Ways To Care For Your Shoes During Rainy Season

Published

on

Other countries, they have seasons, such as Autumn, Spring, Summer and Winter, but in Nigeria, we basically have the dry and rainy seasons.

Dry season runs from October to February while the rainy or wet season begins from most times from April and typically ends between October and November.

Maintaining your shoes during rainy seasons can be a huge task. However, drying and keeping them intact can help in preventing them from getting spoiled.

Below are some tips that can help you manage keep your shoes during rainy seasons:

Freeze the shoes

If you ever end up wetting your shoes, it is super important for you to dry them well in order for them to last long. The best way to get rid of the smell from your shoes is to wash them and dry them. You can use the dry section of a washing machine. To ensure they dry out completely, first use a hair dryer and towel to mop up excess moisture. As an extra precaution, once the shoes are dry double bag and put them in the freezer overnight. This will kill the bacteria that cause shoe odor.

Try Alcohol

Alcohol is an excellent home remedy to help get rid of shoe odor caused by mismanaged wetness. Using a cotton bud, dab some alcohol and rub it inside the shoe. Ensure you do not place alcohol on the outer area, especially if it is made out of leather as that may cause some ruin to the surface of the footwear. Apart from the fact that alcohol can help remove the smell, it can also act as a disinfectant and eradicate the bacteria while removing dirt at the same time.

Powder Them It is important to take care of the insides of your footwear. The inner soles and walls are very prone to decay, thus reducing your shoe’s life. To avoid decaying, you can sprinkle talcum powder on the inner sole from time to time as powder absorbs all the moist.

Water-proof the shoes

Wouldn’t it be best if the rain water just repels down your shoes? The best way to do this is rubbing a little bit of Vaseline or bees wax over your shoes. We all know the oily surface won’t let the water sit over it.

Just follow these basic steps to water proof your favorite pair of shoes:
– Rub Vaseline or wax all over the outer walls of your shoes.
– Use a blow dryer on a medium heat to blow all over the waxed surface, for it to set and give shine to your shoes.
– Leave it to rest for a day. And that’s it! Your water-proof shoes are ready.
This not just protects your shoes from water, but also gives it a nice shine.

Want To Steam Your Hair In The Comfort Of Your Home? Read This!

Published

Many of us (if not everyone) want their hair to be strong and healthy. Some people like to use different oils, conditioners, and masks, others are trying various homemade recipes.

One of the best treatments for your hair is the steam treatment. The best part of the steam treatment is that it is easy to do at home and it is great for natural hair.

Like a facial for your hair, steam treatments infuse both natural hair and weaves with precious moisture, essential for healthy locks. Whether your hair is relaxed, color-treated or simply dried out, steam aids in stronger, suppler hair that’s easier to style and detangle, while the warm vapor opens up the cuticle allowing your conditioner or oil to deeply penetrate strands.

A simple plastic cap stands in for a professional steamer and works just as well.

Step 1: Start with clean hair

Use a clarifying shampoo or a homemade clarifying treatment to help get rid of buildup and ensure that your treatment is better absorbed.

Step 2: Apply hair treatment

Apply conditioner, oil or a protein treatment throughout your hair prior to steaming to allow the product to deeply penetrate, giving your strands added moisture.

Step 3: Put on a plastic cap

Make sure your hair is completely contained within a tight-fitting plastic cap to prevent any steam from escaping.

Step 4: Wear plastic gloves

Protect your hands with gloves and moisten a towel or turban with hot water. Thoroughly wring out until just damp.

Step 5: Wrap the towel around your head

Place the towel or turban around your head and cover with another plastic cap over top of the towel to help keep it warm and lock in the steam.

Step 6: Process for 20-30 minutes

Leave on for 20-30 minutes, re-wetting the towel with hot water as necessary, to allow the moisture from the steam to penetrate the hair and scalp, while activating the conditioner or oil.

Step 7: Unwrap hair and let cool

Let your hair cool to allow the cuticle to close and keep your treatment sealed in. Once hair is cool to the touch, rinse thoroughly.

Step 8: Repeat weekly

Steam hair once a week. Regular steaming has a cumulative effect on locks, ensuring that your hair looks and stays healthy. Conversely, over-steaming can have the opposite effect and lead to weakened strands.
