Sola Sobowale & Kemi Adetiba Talk About “King of Boys: Return of the King” As They Cover Guardian Life Magazine

Published

on

Nollywood veteran Sola Sobowale and multi-talented filmmaker Kemi Adetiba of the top-grossing and well-received films “The Wedding Party” and “King Of Boys” are the new cover stars for Guardian Life Magazine’s new issue.

In the interview, the star actress and director give insight into the making of “King of Boys: Return of the King“, their experiences during the making of the film, other aspects of their careers and a whole lot more.

Read excerpts from the interview below:

Kemi Adetiba on how her parents encouraged her to explore her creativity:

I grew up in a house that stimulated my artistic senses immensely. From the music, my parents played to the films and TV shows they got us to watch, to travel, food, bedtime stories… My parents were constantly painting a world in our minds by what they shared with us. My entire family is quite creative, just in different ways.

Sola Sobowale on why she went on a 10-year hiatus after gracing the screen for several years:

The moment you have children, then you must be ready to take full responsibility. Education is something that is of priority to me, and that is the legacy you can give to your children.

Kemi Adetiba on why she worked with Sola Sobowale again after she starred in “The Wedding Party”

Working with Sola Sobowale on Wedding Party 1 and her intensity, inspired a “what if…?” scenario in my heart. When it comes to casting on any project I have had the privilege to work on, I try to follow my heart. Many times, as I’m writing, I already have some people in mind, and visualising them in the role aids the writing process. I also stalk their Instagrams, and watch the movies to try to see them in different scenarios, or as different characters…

Sola Sobowale on her favourite part about working with Kemi:

Kemi made me stronger, Kemi believed in me. I’ve been around for a while. You know you can do something, but you were never given the chance. I have never met Kemi Adetiba before, I came from the UK for an audition for Wedding Party. She auditioned me, I got the role. After the Wedding Party, I got a call. She said I should come for dinner with her. When I got to Landmark, she looked at me and said we are going to work. Then she gave me the script. I said ‘this is huge’. I asked ‘what am I doing?’ She said ‘you are the king’, I laughed and said ‘you are joking’. She said ‘no’. I said ‘you are putting this responsibility on me, you are putting your life on the line for me, and you believe I can do it?’ she said ‘yes’. I said give me the baton and said let us run, and we have been running. We will not stop, we are just starting.

Watch The Trailer For Toyin Abraham’s Upcoming Movie, “Alakada: Bad And Boujee”

Watch the ‘Alakada: Bad and Boujee’ Movie Trailer | fab.ng

Renowned Nollywood filmmaker and actress Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi has unveiled the official trailer for her highly anticipated December film, “Alakada: Bad and Boujee.”

Leveraging her substantial social media platform, Ajeyemi strategically announced the trailer’s release through her Instagram account.

“From the glamour of social media to real life’s grit! Alakada is about to take the wildest ride of her life!

“Buckle up for the most unpredictable action-comedy of the year!” the post said.

Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi continues her successful “Alakada” franchise with the upcoming release “Alakada: Bad and Boujee.” Further, this marks the fifth instalment in a series that has captivated Nigerian audiences since its 2009 debut.

Moreover, the franchise has consistently evolved. Previous iterations were in 2013 (“Alakada 2“), 2017 (“Alakada Reloaded“), and 2020 (“Fate of Alakada: The Party Planner“).

Throughout the series, Abraham portrays Yetunde, a young woman from a modest background who compensates for her socioeconomic insecurities by fabricating elaborate stories about her financial and social status.

Additionally, this narrative thread has been a consistent hallmark of the franchise. The movie resonates with audiences through its nuanced exploration of social dynamics.

Directed by Adebayo Tijani, the new film features a stellar ensemble cast including Abraham herself, alongside prominent actors Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, Odunlade Adekola, and Bimbo Ademoye.

Furthermore, the production leverages the collective star power of these performers to enhance the film’s appeal.

Abraham’s cinematic journey began in 2003 when she first shared the screen with veteran actress Bukky Wright. Subsequently, she has established herself as a multifaceted talent.

She not only acted in but also directed numerous Nigerian films, including “Ijakumo: The Born Again Stripper,” “The Ghost and the Tout,” and “Prophetess.”

Her exceptional talent has been consistently recognised in the industry. Notably, she was nominated for the African Movie Academy Awards’ Best Supporting Actress for “Esohe” in 2018.

Furthermore, she secured the Best Actress in a Drama award at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for “Elevator Baby” in 2020 and received a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the Best of Nollywood Awards for “Ebimi ni” in 2013.
