Nigerian Highlife Legend Victor Olaiya Has Passed On

Nigerian highlife legend Victor Olaiya has passed on.

His death was confirmed by Michael Odiong of Premiere Music, who reported that the music legend died around noon on Wednesday, Channels Television reports.

Victor Abimbola Olaiya was born on December 31, 1930 in Calabar, and is the 20th child of a family of 24. He was well known with the musical instrument, the trumpet, which he played the highlife style.

In 1954, Victor Olaiya formed his own band, “the Cool Cats,” and his band was chosen to play at the state ball when Queen Elizabeth II visited Nigeria in 1956, and later to play at the state balls when Nigeria became independent in 1960 and when Nigeria became a republic in 1963.

“During the Nigerian Civil War of 1967–70, Victor Olaiya was given the rank of a lieutenant colonel (honorary) in the Nigerian army and his band played for the troops at various locations”.

He’s the legend behind the famous tracks “Baby Jowo” and “Omo Pupa,” and the father to the late actress, Moji Olaiya.

A lot of Nigerians have since then taken to Twitter to express their grief, and also to celebrate the music legend for his great work.

In July 2013, 2Baba collaborated with the late music legend for the music video remix for “Baby Jowo”. The music star also took to Twitter to express his grief and also used the medium to celebrate him. He wrote:

Devastated by the news of the passing of Dr. Victor Olaiya – maestro, mentor, legend. Thanks for the beautiful music. Thanks for the inspiration. Blessed for the honour of sharing a mic and stage with you. Rest in peace baba.

Bobrisky Breaks Silence on Falz Defamation Claims | fab.ng

Following a 24-hour ultimatum to retract defamatory statements made against Nigerian singer Falz and his father in a viral voice note, crossdresser Bobrisky has issued a statement.

In an Instagram post on October 16, 2023, Bobrisky denied making any defamatory remarks about Falz or his father. He emphasized that he is awaiting an official response from his legal counsel before providing further details on the matter.

This statement comes in response to the serious allegations made against Bobrisky, which have sparked widespread public attention and concern.

He wrote,

“TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: In reply to the two letters in circulation from the Law Firm of the Falanas. I like to state for the records and pending the official reply from my counsel, state for the avoidance of doubt that I, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, aka Bobrisky, did not publish any defamatory statement or statements concerning the learnt SAN and his Son Falz.”

Bobrisky demands accountability from the publisher of defamatory statements against Falz and his father.

“It is in the public domain pursuant to my solicitor’s letter dated the 27th day of September 2024 that I have denied any knowledge of what VDM published. I stand by my express denial and put the matter to strict proof and advise that whoever has been defamed should hold the publisher of the defamatory content and my fundamental rights to privacy of my communications should be respected and protected.”

In another story post, Bobrisky emphasized that the responsibility lay with Verydarkman, not him.

“I OKUNEYE idris aka BOBRISKY didn’t give Falz or his dad any money for pardon. As a matter of fact no penny was given to them. Have said dis before and i will say it again. The person that published an Audio online should take fully responsible for what he posted in public. My lawyer will respond to any further information d public want to about dis ongoing issue trending on social media,” he wrote.

The controversy erupted when media personality Verydarkman released an alleged voice note from Bobrisky that quickly spread across the internet.

In this explosive recording, Bobrisky openly admitted that he had evaded prison time despite receiving a sentence for money laundering. Furthermore, the crossdresser boldly claimed that he had paid both Falz and his father to secure a pardon.

Subsequently, after the damaging voice note became public, Falz and his father’s law chambers took immediate action by issuing a stern 24-hour ultimatum to Verydarkman, demanding that he retract his statement.

However, Verydarkman remained defiant and refused to comply with their demands. As a result of his non-compliance, the legal battle intensified, leading to the court’s decisive action.

Finally, the court ruled against Verydarkman. They imposed a substantial fine of ₦500 million. Additionally, they ordered him to remove all defamatory posts related to the matter.

Yul Edochie made an interesting announcement on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

He launched an online ministry and shared the news on social media. Edochie posted the flier to his Instagram account.

The flier contained details about his “True Salvation Ministry”. He invited his fans to attend the online services. This move surprised many of his followers, who knew him primarily as an actor.
