A house party should be the ultimate social gathering. Unlike a club or lounge, you are in control. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and if you don’t handle things the right way, the whole thing might turn out to be a disaster.

So here are 5 important items you need to throw a perfect house party

The Right Guest List

A major factor in the success or failure of your house party depends on who you choose to invite. While inviting the friends you know like to have a good time is helpful, your guest list also needs to include a set of key players that will guarantee things run smoothly.

Good Music System

This is a no brainer after-all what’s a party without music. It’s practically a must-have, but so is the right entertainment system. If you’re hanging out with more than just a few people, you’re going to want a system that can keep up. Investing in good, quality loudspeakers is a great idea, especially if you plan on having more parties in the future.

Good Food (& The Right Kind)

People go to parties expecting to be fed and fed well. So make sure you have something nice to offer your guests.

Plenty of Drinks

This is non negotiable. In terms of drinks, you’ll want to be sure you have enough of the right kind of those as well. Don’t set your mind on alcohol and forget about the rest. It’s important to have a variety of options available, even if you’re doing a BYOB (bring your own booze)-style party.

Security

When inviting a large group of people into your home, you want to be smart about what you give them access to. If you have roommates, lock their doors. If you have medications, hide them somewhere safe. If there’s anything you don’t want another person having access to, secure it. Even if you think you can trust everyone that you’re inviting, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Tems addressed the controversial claim from Buju Banton. Buju Banton claimed that Afrobeats fails to reflect the true realities of its listeners. The Grammy-winning singer argued that Afrobeats, like any other musical genre, serves a specific purpose for its creators, who are predominantly Nigerian.

She emphasized that Afrobeats is a form of pop music designed to provide its audience with a joyful and uplifting experience, similar to pop music from other regions of the world.

Tems countered Buju Banton by highlighting the positive and celebratory nature of Afrobeats, which offers a much-needed escape from the challenges of everyday life.

Tems further emphasised that “Afrobeats is not Reggae, it’s not Rock, it’s for a certain purpose. Thinking about its origin which is Nigeria, it’s for a certain purpose and you can join us in its enjoyment.”

In a recent episode of the Drinking Champs Podcast, Buju Banton made a controversial statement about Afrobeats. He claimed that the movement’s music fails to accurately represent the realities of its predominantly Black audience across Africa. Banton further argued that Nigerian artists leading the global Afrobeats movement have neglected to acknowledge the contributions of Jamaican stars.

Banton’s criticism of Afrobeats sparked reactions from several artists. These include Jamaican Dancehall star Spice. Spice disagreed with her compatriot, pointing out that there are numerous Afrobeats acts, such as Burna Boy and Falz, whose music addresses sociopolitical issues and reflects the realities of their listeners.

In the same interview, Tems addressed the false and offensive rumors that she was pregnant for American rapper Future. The singer dismissed these rumors as an attempt to spread the most outrageous and baseless gossip possible by purveyors of fake news.

Tems also shared insights into her recently released debut album, “Born In The Wild.” The album features guest appearances from Asake and J Cole. She discussed the creative process behind the album and the personal significance of its songs.

South African sensation and Grammy award-winning artist Tyla has graced the ELLE Magazine Cover of the October 2024 issue. At the tender age of 22, Tyla has experienced a meteoric rise in the music industry, captivating audiences worldwide.

Just a few years ago, she was a high school student in Johannesburg with dreams of stardom. Today, she has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first South African solo artist to land on the Billboard Hot 100 since the legendary Hugh Masekela did so 55 years ago.

Furthermore, Tyla made history as the inaugural winner of the Grammy’s new category, Best African Music Performance, for her hit single “Water.”

On Amapiano:

“When amapiano would come on, we would see everybody’s moves just change. Seeing the energy of it…it felt so spiritual,” she tells me. “I always wanted to mix it with other styles that I enjoy, like R&B and pop—and make it my own.” It was frustrating to watch her country’s unique music, from amapiano to kwaito house, go unnoticed by the rest of the world. “I felt it was so special, and it needed to be shared. I did my own version of it in hopes of getting people to go deeper and discover the other artists we have and the origins of my sound.”

On South African music:

“Another thing about South African music: There can be a depressing song, but the beat just makes you wanna dance. So I also like incorporating that in my stuff. While you’re crying, dance and shake your ass at the same time,” she says with a laugh. Whenever she listens to the amapiano song “Healer Ntliziyo Yam,” for instance, she cries. “I know what I like,” Tyla says. “I know what I wanna look like; I know what is cool, especially now I trust my judgment, and yeah, I love collaborating with people and going outside of my comfort zone, but not too far off where it feels like something I wouldn’t do. If I don’t like it, I’m not going to do it.”

Reflecting on her wild year,

“I do feel like I’ve changed a lot in the span of a few months; people may not see it. I’m excited to see that in my next album.” She describes that change as starting to detach from what people say or think about her, after feeling annoyed at constant comparisons to Rihanna and “I’m a Slave 4 U”-era Britney Spears. “Initially I used to care. Recently I’ve just been feeling, ‘They’re gonna say what they wanna say, and it doesn’t even matter because I know it’s not that,'” Tyla says. She posts less and sometimes deletes social media apps from her phone for a week at a time.

“This year was me introducing myself. Next year I’m just gonna have fun,” she says. “Do whatever, wear whatever. I’m just playing around a lot, and bringing a lot of my roots into my music. It’s still gonna be me, still sweaty vibes, but evolved.”

Portable turned down a $6K show to hangout with Davido | fab.ng

Portable has opened up about his relationship with Davido, revealing that it has deteriorated significantly. In a recent interview on Echo Room, Portable shared that during his American tour, he met up with Davido in Atlanta. However, this meeting came at a cost. Portable disclosed that he had to decline a lucrative show worth $6,000 to spend time with Davido.

After their meeting, Davido promised Portable a guest verse on a song. However, Portable revealed that Davido later changed his mind, leaving him disappointed and questioning the state of their friendship.

Portable expressed his frustration during the interview. He claimed that Davido had reneged on his promise to feature on a song. Portable also accused Afrobeats star Zlatan of playing a role in this betrayal. Voicing his disappointment and anger over the situation in Pidgin, he said, “Who go bless you no go stress you.”

During the interview, Portable revealed that he traveled to the United States in search of a foreign artist to collaborate with. While there, he received a call from Davido, inviting him to hang out. According to Portable, it was during this time that Afrobeats star Zlatan cautioned the Grammy-nominated artist to be cautious about associating with him.

Following several days of social media outbursts and accusations against Zlatan for allegedly sabotaging his relationship with Davido, Portable eventually issued an apology in yet another attempt to repair his strained relationship with a fellow industry figure.

Zlatan isn’t the only celebrity Portable has clashed with in 2024. Earlier this year, he was involved in a well-publicized dispute with socialite Bobrisky. More recently, he reconciled with musician Goya Menor after their fallout over the 2022 Headies Best Street Pop Award.

Portable also recently dropped a new single titled “Oriade,” which he performed during his interview session on Echo Room.
