In a bid to support local fashion designers, many Nigerian celebrities including an Award-winning author, Chimamanda Adichie launched a “Wear Nigerian Campaign.” The motive of the campaign is to sensitize and encourage people to buy from both upcoming, as well as established designers, in order to boost local trade and manufacturing.

Nigeria is a fashion powerhouse not only on the African continent, but globally.

Deola Sagoe

Deola Sagoe is a renowned Nigerian fashion designer, entrepreneur and founder of The House of Deola Sagoe. Her unique approach of designing lively and colorful prints has earned her a global following including notable personalities such as Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith, who have recognized her for her celebration of African prints. Her three daughters, Teni, Tiwa, and Aba Sagoe, have taken after their mother and are owners of the popular CLAN fashion label. Deola definitely ruled in 2018 with her bespoke traditional wedding outfits for Nigerian brands.

Styletemple

From a young age Og Okonkwo, CEO Styletemple, had an eye for design and elegance. She loves to travel and continually finds inspiration for her designs in the different cultures and people she comes in contact with.

StyleTemple’s ready-to-wear line which is a mixture of structured wearable pieces with a couture edge, clean geometric cuts and shapes with a standout detail made major fashion headlines in 2018. TUBO

TUBO burst into the Nigerian fashion scene in late 2014 when she switched from a career in Finance and Business Development to pursue her dream of fashion. In 2016 she released the debut collection of her brand, titled “Le premiere by TUBO” a Spring/Summer collection which featured eye-popping colours, structured pieces and gained her local and international recognition as well as the opportunity to showcase at the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria in July 2016.

The Wana Sambo brand was officially launched in December 2010 in Nigeria when the first collection was sold at the first Wana Sambo exhibition. Since then it’s been an upward journey for the young lady born in the late ‘80s as she pushed through her creativity to make a way for her designs in a world of fashion, music, and style.

Mai Atafo

Mai Atafo is a well-known Nigerian male bespoke designer. He rose into the limelight after launching his brand, Mai Atafo, which has been successful both on the local scene, as well as global fashion scene.

Atafo’s clothing label has gained popularity while attracting top clientele. Atafo also launched his fashion line, Weddings by Mai, in 2011 with his designs being showcased at various high-profile events.
