Jidekene Achufusi, a Nollywood actor, tried to see the humour in being overlooked for an AMVCA (Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award) nomination. He played a lead role in the record-breaking movie “A Tribe Called Judah.”
The AMVCAs announced their nominees on Sunday, March 24th, for their ceremony in May. Many famous actors from movies made in the past year were included. Funke Akindele produced “A Tribe Called Judah,” and it was a big hit. It earned over 1.4 billion Nigerian naira (₦) and got five nominations. However, despite his starring role, Achufusi wasn’t nominated.
Fans were unhappy about some other actors who were also passed over for awards that night. This includes Chimezie Imo for his role in “Breath of Life” and Achufusi’s co-star, Tobi Makinde.
On Twitter on Wednesday, March 27th, Jidekene Achufusi expressed that he wished fans were just as vocal about his AMVCA snub as they were about others.
He jokingly mentioned in his tweet, “After delivering stellar performances in 2 of the top 3 films of 2024, but your snub isn’t trending.” He also playfully asked what Chimezie Imo and Tobi Makinde “put for una soup” to get their snubs trending on social media.

“A Tribe Called Judah” received nominations in various categories: Best Lead Actress for Akindele, Best Supporting Actor for Timini Egbuson, Best Makeup for Feyisayo Oyebisi, and Best Writing for Akindele, Collins Okoh, and Akinlabi Ishola.
Additionally, it earned a nomination for Best Movie, competing against “Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti,” “Breath of Life,” “Over the Bridge,” “Blood Vessel” (which also starred Achufusi), “The Black Book,” and “Mami Wata.”
Tolu Ajayi directed “Over the Bridge,” which garnered the most (12) nominations of the night. However, its lead actor, Ozzy Agu, did not receive a nomination.
