Arresting Critics Is Not Strength – Charly Boy On Dele Farotimi’s Arrest

Charly Boy on the arrest of Dele Farotimi | fab.ng

Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charly Boy has publicly condemned the arrest of human rights lawyer and author Dele Farotimi by the Nigerian Police.

On December 3, 2024, the outspoken singer took to Instagram to criticise the Nigerian police. He called the arrest an “admission of fear.

In his post, he wrote:

“Today, the Nigerian Police arrested renowned human rights lawyer and author of a recent book titled; Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System, Dele Farotimi for alleged defamation. Shockingly, his whereabouts remain unknown.”

A post shared by CharlyBoy 🇳🇬 (@areafada1)

Charly Boy described the incident as “a blatant assault on freedom of speech, human rights, and the rule of law in Nigeria.” He emphasised that defamation is a civil matter that should be resolved in court, not through police intimidation.

“Defamation cases, as established by precedent, are civil matters meant to be resolved in a court of law, not through police intimidation. The case of the Falanas and VeryDarkMan demonstrated that legal disputes over defamation should follow due process. Arresting a critic and human rights advocate reflects a misuse of power and an attempt to silence dissent,” he wrote.

Charly Boy asserted that the arrest of Dele Farotimi exemplifies the misuse of power to silence critics.

Also, it is a disturbing trend that indicates growing authoritarianism in the country. He wrote,

“We must ask: What does this say about a system that fears criticism more than injustice? How can Nigeria claim to uphold democracy while criminalising dissent and weaponising state institutions against its citizens? Arresting critics is not strength; it is the ultimate admission of fear.”

Charly Boy called for Farotimi’s release, concluding:

“We demand the immediate release of Dele Farotimi and a transparent investigation into this abuse of power. Defamation should never serve as an excuse for arbitrary detention, and no Nigerian should live in fear of speaking truth to power. Let us stand together against oppression and injustice. A nation that silences its critics is a nation on the brink of tyranny.”

Skales Calls Out Nigerian Police for Alleged Harassment | fab.ng

Nigerian singer and songwriter Skales has publicly criticised the Nigerian Police Force following an alleged altercation on December 4, 2024.

The artist took to the social media platform X to share his experience. He recounted an incident near Magodo in Lagos while en route to an interview at City FM.

In a strongly worded post, Skales called out the police force, detailing the incident in active sentences.

He wrote,

“Nigerian police will not stop being a joke …so yesterday the Nigerian police under the bridge close to magodo as if you’re going to fela shrine/agidingbi stopped us on our way to city fm last night & displayed plenty madness of pointing guns at us as if we were criminals after they finished their usual b.s “

The singer claims that police officers demanded “Christmas money” from him. When he refused, they allegedly threatened to delay his journey and search his vehicle.

Skales narrated,

“They now asked for money for Christmas then I said I swear I’m not giving and we are late for an interview … they said a lot of rubbish .. that they would delay us and search us … and I said my level of hatred for this joke called Nigerian police force will not let me want to ever be at your mercy so we dropped for them to search..”

The police searched Skales’ car and found bundles of cash. The singer alleges that this discovery further intensified the situation.

“They started saying, ‘Okay, so you get money you no want give us; we go show you today,’” he wrote, noting that despite the threats, nothing incriminating was found.

The officers allegedly continued to make remarks but eventually let the artist go after verifying his vehicle’s documents.

He concluded, “Nigerian police I will never respect those fools.. useless people na only to stop Benz una sabi when yawa gas una go gbes .. foolish idiots”

What Type Of Greed Is This? – Mr Macaroni Criticises Nigerian Politicians

Mr Macaroni criticises Nigerian politicians | fab.ng

Nigerian comedian and activist Mr. Macaroni expressed his disappointment with the state of governance of Nigerian politicians.

He criticised politicians for their greed and lack of accountability. Also, he highlighted the ongoing issue of public funds being misused.

In a post on X on December 3, 2024, he decried the negative impact of corruption on the country’s progress. He wrote,

“Nigerian Politicians have stolen and are still stealing billions and trillions from the Nation’s purse. Unfortunate enough as it is that there are Zero Consequences for these actions, it is torturous that the people whose treasury are being looted continue to defend Politicians who absolutely do not care about their existence.”

Mr. Macaroni expressed shock at the extent of corruption among Nigerian politicians. He pointed out that the stolen funds could have significantly improved the lives of Nigerian citizens.

In another post, he asked,

“How can you comfortably loot public funds enough to change the standard of living of millions of the people you ought to serve selflessly? What type of greed and wickedness is this?”

“How exactly is the Country supposed to get better when our Politicians just want to steal!!! No integrity!!! No sense of purpose!! No accountability!!! Zero shame!!! Just hardened criminals in office!!! How did the people become so hopeless?”

Mr. Macaroni has consistently spoken out against Nigerian politicians and their treatment of the people.

On October 29, 2024, he reacted strongly to a viral video featuring former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike addressing citizens.

In his response, Mr. Macaroni expressed deep frustration and anger. Public officials’ mistreatment and disrespect of the people they should serve fuel his anger.

Outraged, he wrote,

“Nigerian politicians lack regard for Nigerians, and this is because they have never been accountable to the people. The other day the FCT Minister was addressing some Nigerians, and he said, “Are you stupid? Is it because I came down to talk to you? You are a civil servant!!!” What do you mean by, “Is it because I came down to talk to you? You are talking to the people that pay your salary!!!””
