Nigerians To Pay N7.45/kwh More For Electricity (See Price List)

Electricity

Barring any last-minute change, electricity consumers in Nigeria are to pay between N2.89 and N7.45 per kilowatt hour (kwh) increase in the new cost reflective tariff slated for announcement before October.

Investigations showed that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), an agency in charge of the tariff, which completed receipts of complaints on the tariff review after the expiration of 30-day window, is “awaiting final signal” from The Presidency before it would announce the new tariff.

The Federal Government had checks by this newspaper revealed, already yielded to pressure from power investors to go ahead with the major tariff review, which reflects the “current economic realities.”

Referring to the hike as marginal increase, a draft copy of the tariff sighted by New Telegraph showed that the monthly/quarterly review is expected to be reflected differently by the 11 electricity distribution companies.

“There are five factors considered for the new tariff; the first is Class A. Residential A, a high number of customers belong to the residential class. They use electricity for a flat or house. The second is Class B, which is Commercial.

Under this, the customers use electricity for other purposes besides residence such as offices or shops,” the draft of the tariff revealed. “The third is Class C known as Industrial Customers who use the premises only for manufacturing products.

That’s why it is called “Industrial.” After this is Class D, which includes Special Hospitals, government institutes, schools, religious houses, water boards, agriculture industries, universities, among others. They all belong to the special class.

The next one is Class E, which is the tariff module used for Street Lights,” the new tariff draft added. All the R1 customers who are rural dwellers are, however, exempted, while the others from top class residential to industrial would have their tariff increased.

R2B customers on the network of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company would see tariff increase from N29.61 to N33.50 per kilowatt hour while those few customers in the D3 category are expected to get a review from N14.45 to N46.90 pkwh.

Already, the main electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) namely Enugu Distribution Company;
Kano Distribution Company;
Yola Distribution Company;
Jos Distribution Company;
Kaduna Distribution Company;
Abuja Distribution Company;
Port Harcourt Distribution Company;
Benin Distribution Company;
Ikeja Distribution Company;
Ibadan Distribution Company;
and Eko Distribution Company, operate discriminatory tariff. The tariff rate in the new model depends on your class, a management staff of NERC told this newspaper after his anonymity had been guaranteed. He said: “Main classes were divided by the DISCOs to sub-classes.

The division is based on the average consumption of electricity by each class. It is different for each class and DISCOs. It also depends on the quantity of consumed energy. Below is the tariff for each DISCOs and subclass for the years 2017 and 2018 (2017/2018 in text), on which between N5 and N12 is expected to be added.
All numbers are in Naira/ kWh.

Bobrisky Released On Bail After Denying 15 Million Naira Bribery Allegations

Bobrisky granted bail after denying N15m bribery allegation | fab.ng

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently granted bail to Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, following his detention.

On Thursday night, Bobrisky was apprehended and removed from a KLM flight bound for Amsterdam at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport while attempting to travel to London.

Subsequently, Bobrisky took to social media to inform his followers about his arrest, claiming to have sustained injuries during the incident.

He posted, “Nigerians, help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”

After his arrest, officials transported him to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja for questioning over alleged bribery claims involving the commission.

The allegations arose when social media critic Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, released a voice note reportedly featuring Bobrisky’s voice. In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly claimed he had bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges.

However, late on Friday, November 1, authorities processed Bobrisky’s bail, and he regained his freedom shortly after. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the release on Saturday but declined to provide additional information.

A source close to the case disclosed that Bobrisky denied all bribery allegations in his official statement. He also challenged the voice note’s authenticity, urging the individual who shared it to prove the claims.

According to the source, Bobrisky asserted that no EFCC official had solicited money from him and insisted he had not offered any bribe.

Through this statement, Bobrisky maintained his innocence, asserting that the bribery accusations were baseless. Meanwhile, the EFCC has yet to comment further on the case. This leaves questions about the voice note’s origins and the nature of the allegations still unresolved.
