See How Tems, Wizkid, Other Nigerian Artistes Showed Up At Coachella

Coachella: See How Nigerian Artistes Showed Up | Fab.ng

Coachella, the undisputed king of summer music festivals (and some would say the entire year!), wasn’t just about the music this year. Nigerian artists came to slay, not only with their incredible performances but also with their on-point fashion sense.

From show-stopping stage outfits that shimmered under the desert lights to effortlessly cool looks that dominated street-style snaps, these talented Nigerians made sure all eyes were on them.

Here’s a closer look at how they brought their A-game and stole the show at Coachella!

Fireboy DML brought a fresh, Gen Z vibe to Coachella. He rocked a loose-fitting jersey that proudly displayed the Nigerian coat of arms, paired with super baggy pants. It was a cool and casual look that felt perfect for the festival atmosphere.

Joining the Nigerian takeover at Coachella was DJ Spinall! He wasn’t there to perform with a band, but he kept the party going with a hot DJ set. Staying true to his signature style, DJ Spinall rocked a classic white shirt and trousers, finishing the look off with his well-known cap and scarf.

Nigerian superstar Tems absolutely blew everyone away at Coachella! Channelling the legendary Diana Ross, she looked like royalty in a stunning black sequined gown. With her voluminous, fluffy hair, she absolutely commanded the stage. But Tems didn’t stop there. She surprised the audience (and the entire internet!) with an epic performance alongside Wizkid and even Justin Bieber. Needless to say, the crowd went wild!

‘Esther Was Black And Broke’ Challenge: Just Colourism Or Fun Wordplay?

'Esther Was Black And Broke' Challenge | Fab.ng

A recent social media challenge has people talking but is also sparking some controversy. The “Esther was Black and Broke” challenge started on TikTok with a wordplay. The phrase “Esther bleached” sounds like “establish,” and many people used the sound to show their own “glow up” over time.

This glow-up could involve better phones, trendier clothes, or even a change in skin tone for some. Celebrities like Mercy Eke, Toyin Abraham, Real Warri Pikin, Saga Deolu, and Tacha Akide even joined in!

However, not everyone loves this challenge. Some people say it promotes colourism, the idea that lighter skin is better than darker skin. They worry the challenge suggests having dark skin is unattractive. A TV host even spoke out against it on social media.

I fear that being black is associated with being broke… But as a dark-skinned black woman who has had to deal with colourism even here in Nigeria, I fear that we are passing a subtle message that dark skin is ugly. It’s all fun and games until your dark-skinned child doesn’t like their skin colour because they heard that Esther was black and broke.”

While some disagreed, many celebrities and influencers in Olive Emodi’s post supported her concerns. Music producer Don Jazzy fully agreed, and lifestyle influencer Powede Awujo pointed out that humour can sometimes lead to bigger issues.

Colourism, especially in entertainment, is a serious problem. Actress Beverly Naya has spoken out about how it affects people, even leading some young women to use dangerous skin-bleaching products.

The World Health Organisation says Nigeria has the highest rate of people using harmful skin-lightening chemicals. The popularity of these bleaching creams shows this isn’t just a funny trend; it’s a real problem with negative consequences.

We Are Just Friends – Gorgeous Doll In Cosy Picture With Davido Clarifies

Gorgeous Doll In Cosy Picture With Davido Clarifies | Fab.ng

An American influencer named Gorgeous Doll accidentally posted a friendly photo with singer Davido online. This caused some people to get upset with her. Gorgeous Doll explained on TikTok that she and Davido are just friends, and there’s nothing more going on between them. She made this video on April 15, 2024.

“I did not know that this man was married. Anytime I was around Davido, it was for one or two things okay? It was either because I was styling him for an event because that’s what I do, whether it’s athletes or rappers. Another thing I would do is help him with bookings when he comes into Atlanta. I would call the club owners and tell them ‘Hey Davido is in town, do y’all want to book him?'”

Gorgeous Doll also denied knowing that Davido was married while they were friends.

“At this point, I had never seen a wife, only baby mamas and I knew he had multiple baby mamas. I didn’t care because it wasn’t my business to ask and I never thought to ask ‘Are you married.'”

Gorgeous Doll explained that a video of Davido crying and begging that went viral online was actually posted by her friend Bonita, not her.

She explained,

“I am not mad that Bonita posted the video but I am upset that she did when I said don’t post anything and now she has opened a whole other door that I myself am not prepared for.”

“Now I’m being attacked on social media, and I’m being perceived in a way that I don’t like. I am not going to post something that I know would destroy someone’s relationship. This is a friendship that I’ve built over the last four to five years; we are locked in, and he does not care about me taking pictures or posting because we have nothing to hide,” she concluded.
